A Student Pilot Licence (SPL) allows you to fly a Malaysian-registered aircraft under the supervision or authority of a CAAM-approved flight instructor. It also allows you to carry out flying activities while undergoing flying training to attain higher classes of pilot licences.
To obtain a SPL, you must
- before your first solo flight, be at least 17 years old; and
- meet the Class 2 medical requirements.
There is no requirement needed for flying experience or completion of the knowledge examinations administered by CAAM for the initial issuance or renewal of a SPL.
Additionally, if you intend to pursue a professional pilot licence (CPL, MPL, or ATPL) you must meet the minimum education requirements before beginning flight training.
More detailed requirements can be found in Chapter 2 of CAGM 1001 – Flight Crew Licensing (FCL). Refer to Student Pilot Licence Initial Application & Renewal for quick guidance.
